<p class="MsoNormal">In many of the stories of healing in the Bible, we can
observe that there were certain conditions that had to exist in order for
healing to take place.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">First, the person is asked if they could let go. That is to
say, let go of, give away, set aside, whatever was holding them back from, or
blocking, healing. It could be something physical, material, emotional or
psychological. Are you ready to let go of your pride, your wealth, your
position, your worries, etc.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Second, is the person ready and able to receive? What
preparations have been made, physically and mentally. How have you prepared,
even to receive the Consecration of the Human Being on Sundays, or during the
week.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It takes a community, or village, sharing each other’s
burdens. The very wonderful thing is, the whole is greater than the sum of its
parts. <i>Wherever two or more are gathered in my name, there will I be.</i>
Working out of and with the Spirit, we can each be a part of something greater,
co-creators, giving and receiving, forming an ever more perfect union.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Passiontide can be a kind of preparation, through
mindfulness, gratitude, sacrifice, in order to receive the ultimate gift of incandescent
Love.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The secret to giving and receiving is that it is a beautiful
cycle. The more you can give, the more you can receive, and the more you
receive, the more you can give. <i>Take me, for as much as I have given myself
to you.<o:p></o:p></i></p>

Light.</i><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Christ entered the earthly world, scarcely noticed but
for a few, who took up the message of hope, love, peace, compassion and
sacrifice, or service. He came to remind us where we came from, that we are
spiritual beings, and to show us the way back home. He brought the spiritual
down into the physical, for all human beings. He will not appear again, until
we learn to look first into our own hearts. When we find and listen to
the Spirit that dwells in our innermost soul, it can be our guiding star.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We have reached a period of time when darkness appears to be
everywhere, outwardly. Our hearts may be heavy, the future unsure. Look inward,
find the light, and let it shine forth. The future is in our hands and the
choices we make. Christ showed us the way, and it is up to each of us now, to
bring the kingdom of God down to the Earth.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Peace on Earth, to all who bear the gift of good will.<o:p></o:p></p>

Knowing there was no way to overcome this occupation by fighting back, they instead chose a non violent option. Today it is known as the Singing Revolution, and they were successful in taking back their freedom.</p><p>Words and music have power to lift up our souls into a higher realm. They can create a positive energy and vibration that finds a correspondence in the heavenly spheres.</p><p>Today we hear of evermore centers of armed conflict and natural disasters. </p><p>Violence, too creates a vibrational energy but not in a good way. I suspect that more conflict may in fact creates more natural disasters. We already are becoming more aware of our responsibility for conservation and climate change. Our actions have consequences. Our words have consequences. Our thoughts have consequences.</p><p>Jesus gave us only two commandments,</p><p>Love the Lord thy God with all your heart all your soul all your mind and all your strength.</p><p>Love your neighbor as yourself.</p><p>So then let us raise up our thoughts and voices in praise of the coming King all over the world. The enemy knows that his time is short.</p><p>Sparky</p><p><br /></p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-62470215931071598052023-07-01T13:06:00.000-07:002023-07-01T13:06:22.397-07:00COMMUNITY<p> Dear Friends,</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The concept of community is wide and varied. Here are some
of my thoughts, drawn from different sources:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The ideal of a community would be a group of people working
together, who share a common goal, while respecting and supporting each
individual member and their point of view. There can be differences of opinion,
but ultimately, the end goal must be kept in mind.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As teenagers and young adults, we begin to wonder who we
are, what is our purpose, why are we here? We are trying to figure out who we
are, but at the same time, we are searching for inclusion. We look at the world
around us and ask, what is working, what is not working, sometimes with great
vigor and even rebellion. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Who am I? This can be a lifelong question. Meditation is
often suggested to help us find our center, which is why I like our Sunday service
– it lends itself to contemplation and meditation. In turning our thoughts
inward, we can find our way to the Christ.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">John the Baptist exhorted people to change their way of
thinking, or one could say, to put aside everyday matters and troubles long
enough to gaze inwardly. This can be a very long process, requiring patience.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It is an interesting thing that the closer we come to
understanding ourselves, the more open we are to understanding others – a kind
of transformation of soul takes place. The more we can connect our individual I
am, to the I AM of Christ, the more we become interested in being of service to
others. I have always found it helpful to try not to dwell too much on my own
troubles, and turn instead to helping others. I can also remind myself not to
judge the actions of others too harshly, for I have not walked in their shoes.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We can become more aware of the effect of our own words and
actions on others. We can even ask ourselves, what is potentially helpful, and
what is potentially a hindrance. Am I serving only my ego, or ultimately, am I
serving others?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">What is happening right now in the world? Chaos seems to
reign everywhere we look. Chaos is the mechanism of a soul process of transformation.
Me and my wrestling soul may lie lamenting on the ground, but if I keep a
picture of Christ leading the way, I know I can win through to finding peace in
the eye of the storm.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Today, we are witnessing in the physical world, a great
battle for the soul of all human beings. There is a saying: as above, so below.
That would suggest that there is a battle happening as well in the spiritual
world. As individuals, and in communities, perhaps we can feel that we are
being called to join in this battle. Not through war or terrorism, fear mongering
or pillaging, but in finding our path to the Being of the Christ, and standing
steadfast.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Lastly, some words from Psalm 23:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">He leads me beside still waters…<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me….<o:p></o:p></p>

In May, we know that sooner or later, the cotton will start to fly, eventually collecting along the edges of roadways, like soft, fluffy clouds.</p><p>This week of Ascension, I watched the cotton drifting around on a lovely warm sunny day, in contemplation of life, in general. I had just finished reading Emil Bock's book on Moses. If you have never read one of his books, beg or borrow one - your way of looking at the Bible will be forever changed. The width and depth of his research is astounding. His ability to describe different scenes in the Holy Land is truly inspired. Even though some of his books were written 100 years ago, they feel as if they were written for today, and offers one a different perspective on current events.</p><p>Generally speaking, we usually picture the Earth as awakening in the Spring, and breathing out into the cosmos. Watching the cotton floating around though, it evoked the story of manna that miraculously appeared during the night for the desert wanderers. What was it exactly that they received in the realm of their soul? You will have to read the book to find out.</p><p>Suffice it to say, though, that it felt as though we could still imagine during this time of year, like a fine, summer rain, the tender love of the cosmos, gently falling and ever-present.</p><p>Sparky</p><p><br /></p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-3676995015096506832023-04-06T09:25:00.000-07:002023-04-06T09:25:03.462-07:00WHERE IS THE LOVE?<p> Dear Friends,</p><p>These are apocalyptic times. One only has to look around to see that this is so. We see the abandonment of all the values we once held dear, worst of all is the abandonment of responsibility, we see the heartbreaking abandonment of animals, and yes, even human beings,</p><p>Once our shores were the symbol of hope for those seeking freedom from persecution, famine and poverty. People came with nothing in their pockets but their hopes and dreams and the willingness to work hard. Many, like my Quaker ancestors, came with something else, their love and faith in God.</p><p>Today many of our young people have no hope. They turn instead to drugs and video games. There is no trust in our political or economic systems. Family values no longer exist. We see that today, only numbers matter. What is the bottom line, what are my ratings on the stage of social media? This is all that matters. Materialism has reached its nadir.</p><p>Today, Mandy Thursday, we can turn our thoughts to the Christ. HE knew what was about to happen. During the Last Supper HE gave the first Communion. HE washed his disciples' feet, and told them HE was about to be betrayed.</p><p>HE did not come to overthrow the government or to amass a fortune. HE came to show us how to find our way out of the mechanistic way of thought, back into the world of the spirit. This path requires much in the way of sacrifice, mainly in terms of our own egos. </p><p>These are apocalyptic times. If we can find a way to open our hearts, we can feel the approach of the Christ in the realm of our souls. Through the Sacrament of the Consecration of the Human Being. In consciously lifting up our soul and engaging in communion with Christ, we will be able to face whatever is coming.</p><p>Here in Vancouver, where Easter is greeted with clouds and rain we look to the Light with gratitude, humility and faith.</p><p>Sparky</p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-38501965123578518132022-10-22T11:41:00.000-07:002022-10-22T11:41:07.279-07:00BREATHING IN, BREATHING OUT<p> </p><p class="MsoNormal">Breathing in and breathing out, we do it without being
conscious of it. It is a process that is taken care of by our bodies
automatically. We can, however, make ourselves consciously aware of this
process. In doing so, we turn our attention inward. The practice of relaxation
and meditation begins with a focus on our breath.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We can also imagine a similar process, whereby we consciously
take into ourselves, gifts from the spiritual world. At night, while we are
asleep, this happens though we are not aware of it, to give us strength for the
day ahead.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">During meditation and contemplation, we can work to become
aware of the gifts streaming into us from the spiritual world. These gifts, I
believe, are meant not only to strengthen us as individuals, but also to be
shared. This can be an ongoing activity to the extent that we can find a way to
do so. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As we feel ourselves being healed, we can transform
ourselves into instruments, or conduits, of the highest gift of all, Divine
Love. The most wonderful mystery occurs when a person feels so filled with
love, that they radiate this love out into the world. Anyone nearby can
literally see this love radiating out; it touches every person, plant and
animal. The world suddenly becomes new to this person, and senses are
heightened. That is to say, in consciously receiving the sacrificial Love of
Christ, we can become new (Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see
God). Some kinds of love can wane over time, but Divine Love was present in the
Beginning, is present in each of us at this very moment, and will be with us
for all cycles of time to come.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our task is to find meaningful ways in our time to radiate
out this Divine Love, once we have been able to open ourselves
to it. When we can develop within ourselves the conviction of quiet faith, we
have the strength to put aside our own weaknesses, our ego, and endeavor to
help others (be charitable), eliciting hope for the future of the Human Being.
It can be not just a single moment in time or experience, but an ongoing
act-ivity, striving to bring it into our consciousness, and then radiating out,
that which is continuously shining in the spiritual.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">IN PURE RAYS OF LIGHT, SHINES THE DIVINITY OF THE WORLD</p><p class="MsoNormal">IN PURE LOVE TO ALL BEINGS, RAYS THE DIVINITY OF MY SOUL<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">I SHALL REST IN THE BOSOM OF THE DIVINITY OF THE WORLD</p><p class="MsoNormal">I SHALL FIND MY (TRUE ) SELF IN THE BOSOM OF THE DIVINITY OF THE WORLD</p>

you know how different things are now from two years ago.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Many people used to be able to plan out their meals for the
week, go to the store and get what they needed, which helped them to stick
to a budget.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">That is not possible now. You never know from one week to
the next if prices will go up. You never know from what day to the next, what
will actually be in stock. Gas prices in Vancouver have been the most expensive
in North America, so trips to the store are necessarily limited.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Shopping now requires a new way of thinking. You have to go,
see what is in stock and make purchases accordingly. If I spot something I know
I use on a regular basis, I will get it right away, especially dry goods. I
have to work with what is currently available. I may have to consider
alternatives to get the nourishment my body requires, or find something new and
different.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This can be applied in other areas, where we face similar
challenges.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We can look to the past to see what was applicable at that
time. What were the goals and methods used to reach those goals? Were they successful?
What lessons did we learn? How best do we move forward?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In these fast changing and unsettling times, we cannot necessarily
rely on the past for the answers to the problems of today. We are challenged to
move forward, not backward, and hopefully, not just stand still. We are in the midst
of the breaking in of a brave, new world.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We have to find new ways of thinking and doing that will
move us into the future; a future, hopefully, of kindness and compassion. We
have to plan for a living legacy. When we can consider a situation objectively,
and look at things from different points of view, new possibilities can present
themselves.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I believe this holds true, economically, socially,
politically, and in our religious life. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In studying the works of Rudolf Steiner, we can deepen our
understanding of the how, what, where, when and why of current events, and of
how to begin to address these questions. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I currently read an astounding statement by Dr. Steiner:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Our ancestors were our own souls in other bodies.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We know through the incredible work of Dr. Steiner that our souls have
gone through many incarnations, and will continue to do so, in order that we
may continue to evolve. The Christ Event, as he explains, does not preclude
this fact. Rather, the Christ points the way as to how we can continually
strive onwards and upwards.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-51510797187392055412022-06-06T14:57:00.000-07:002022-06-06T14:57:17.933-07:00A L O H A<p> Aloha was the very best word I could think of to describe yesterday’s
events in our community.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We celebrated the induction of our very own Rev. Erica
Maclennan, and bid adieu to seminary intern, Marc Fortin. In other words, a time for welcoming back into our fold, and
a time for letting go. A time of hello and goodbye.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Almost everyone has heard of this word, Aloha, and may know
that it is commonly used as both a greeting and a parting.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">What most of us do not know, however, is the deeper meaning
of this word. In native Hawaiian, it means:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">PRESENCE OF (alo) SPIRIT (ha)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">There was no question of the presence of Spirit during the
service, or afterwards as we gathered for a light potluck lunch, followed by
words of gratitude, reflection, and some thoughts on Whitsun.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">One can also ask, what does the Spirit of Aloha stand for?
Even though this concept goes back thousands of years in Hawaiian culture,
there are many words that one would also hope to ascribe to being a Christian:
kindness, harmony, modesty, patience, compassion, gratitude. It is the
coordination of mind and heart within each individual, in order to bring each
person to the Self. It is a way of life and the essence of relationships that
recognizes each person as important to every other person for collective
existence. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is so important, that in 1986, Hawaii passed a law
called, the Aloha Spirit Law. It requires that all lawmakers, judiciary and
government officials, from the governor on down, take it into consideration

<p class="MsoNormal">This year, believe it or not, is a year of Light.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For 100 years, The Church of The Christian Community, has
now been in existence, proclaiming the Word of God, or Logos, in a new form. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For 100 years, the Light of the Christ has streamed forth
from every altar, reaching every corner of the globe. It will continue to touch
every soul for many centuries to come.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We may not be conscious of this Light, but it is in each and
every one of us, regardless of race, color or creed. We come from Light, and
are born into this earthly existence. We are essentially beings of light, who
have forgotten where we came from. There have been many recorded instances,
where someone, experiencing a next-to-death moment, has seen that Light – has become
conscious of it, and been forever changed when they returned.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">That is our purpose on Earth - to once again become
conscious of this reality – to become aware of it in our very souls, live with
it, and work with it.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">There are forces who desire to turn us away from this
purpose, to distract us, but as we have recently seen in current events, people
are waking up. We are no longer content to be treated like machines, or
animals, to be merely a cog in the wheel that serves those who are only
interested in money and power. That wheel wants to grind us into dust. But we
are far more than mere clay.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Everywhere, in everything we see and do, there can be Light.
Perhaps it is in a flower, perhaps it is in a kindness someone has shown you, a
friendly hello, a work of art, a strain of music. You only have to look or
listen for it. Perhaps it is a feeling welling up inside of you! We, as human
beings, can and will be co-creators of this Light. It is our choice as to when
that will happen. We can choose for it to happen right now, this moment, or in
the far distant future. This has to do with our ego and our will. When we can
let go of our own ego (lower self) and willfulness, we create space for the
Light of Christ to ray forth. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><i>Thy Will be done, on Earth, as it is in Heaven.<o:p></o:p></i></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Today in our community, we had the rare, once in a lifetime
privilege, to meet, welcome and shake hands with the world-wide leader of our
church; also, to hear some of his thoughts on the challenges we face for the
next 100 years as a global community. So strongly did this experience tug on my
heartstrings, that I could barely speak afterwards, and there were tears in my
eyes as I drove home.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In two weeks, we will welcome home into our midst, our very
own, newly ordained priest, Erica Maclennan.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">More later!<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Sparky</p><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-22297816928734336352022-03-27T20:12:00.001-07:002022-03-27T20:12:37.722-07:00DEEP PURPLE<p> </p><p class="MsoNormal">Dear Friends,</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Today as we entered the chapel, there was something new! A
rich, deep purple color had been painted on the wall behind the altar, in the
shape of a tent. Above the roof of the tent there were still wisps of pale
lazuring, like smoke or incense, rising to the heavens.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It has been a very long time since our community has been
able to experience this deep purple as a backdrop, but the effect was amazing!
Every color in front of it stood out, from our beautiful altar painting, to the
altar cloth, the candles, and the candle flames.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This color and shape beckons you in. It encourages deeper
contemplation, a deeper striving for understanding and devotion.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In 1500 B.C., and for many centuries to come, this color was
known as <b>roya</b>l purple. Archaeologists have been able to discern how this
color was made, in the city of Tyre, where the dyeing was perfected. Thousands
upon thousands of the murex shellfish were crushed to extract the color from
its mucus – up to 250,000 to make 1 ounce of dye. It was a costly and long
process, affordable only for <b>royalty</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Today, we use the roots and berries of different plants to
make a natural purple dye, again, a form of sacrifice, on the part of the plant.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">How appropriate and wonderful during this time of Passiontide,
to be able to experience the act of sacrifice in a different, yet meaningful,
way.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Jesus said, only those who turn and become like little
children may enter the kingdom of heaven.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">What does this mean, to be like a little child?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is easier to understand when we observe the behaviour
of little children. They are still very connected to the spiritual world, and
their hearts are still very much open. They feel a close connection with
plants, animals and the mineral kingdom. They are kind and forgiving. Their
love is unconditional. Their energy and enthusiasm are positive and boundless.
In their world, anything is possible. Their feelings are intense. If they see
someone in pain, they <i>feel </i>that pain. They do not hold a grudge. What
happens in the moment is quickly forgotten – they do not live in the past, nor
do they worry about the future.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It is the ongoing task of humanity, according to Rudolf
Steiner, to move from a mindset of taking, to one of giving, and self
sacrifice. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">People who experience pain and suffering often ask, Why me?
This is a deep question and a complicated answer. Nevertheless, a starting
point to that conversation might be, we suffer and experience pain so that our
hearts can be open to others in pain. One example could be when someone loses a
loved one to a particular disease. They then take up the cause of researching
and eradicating that disease. In other words, our eyes have been opened to a
particular problem, our hearts are engaged, and we find the will to focus on
finding a solution to that problem.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">When Peter asked Jesus, how often should we forgive someone
their trespasses? Jesus answered, 70 x 7 times. HE also said, we should forgive
all debts, for as we forgive, so will we also be forgiven.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Take a closer look at the word, forgive, or for give. This
is almost a double movement. To give something is to pass something along. In
some cases, people who have been given a gift or favor, say to themselves, I
will pay it forward. If someone does you a kindness, often you will in turn do
a kindness for someone else. The word <i>for</i> is also a forward movement.
Nevertheless, we have to be sure we are not just going in circles, or the same
old ruts, or even backwards. It takes courage (of conviction) to forge a new path, strength (faith) to keep going, and
wisdom to know when to ask for help and engage others (humility).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dear Lord, help me to weld wisdom, strength and courage into
my soul, that I may work in the world in the right way. Help me to be as a
little child.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">First of all, I wish to express my gratitude for this chance
to try to put down my thoughts and feelings from time to time, and to send them
out into the universe. I hope in doing so, that I have not caused offense or concern,
as this has never been my intention.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The opinions and ideas expressed are my own, and not
necessarily a reflection of the views of the creators of this website.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Having said that, the following is just something I feel
needs to be expressed.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We are challenged to think with our hearts and act out of
feelings of empathy and compassion, even for our enemies.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">That being said, it was with sorrow that I learned of the
actions this week on the part of the Russian government. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Putting aside political considerations, the question is, why now?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If we look at the protests in the past few weeks in Canada
and other countries, we see that feelings are running high, after two years of
lockdowns. There have been a great many contributing factors to food shortages,
limited medical care, a rise in gas and housing prices. The list goes on and
on, not to mention the loss of loved ones. Each country and its people have suffered. In Canada, distance is a huge challenge
in keeping supply chains going.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">How much greater must this challenge be in Russia? We
receive very little factual information with regards to what is happening in
that country, but it is easy to imagine that their people are truly suffering,
especially in the dead of winter. We know from history that aggressive military
action only causes further hardship for civil populations.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Food, clothing, shelter and clean water are all basic human
needs. When these needs cannot be met, desperation arises.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">What if we, as a global community, worked to supply these items,
food, at the very least, to the Russian people? Airdrops of food and medicine
all over the country, from every direction, from every country and non
governmental organizations. Would it not be great to turn war machines into
bread machines – to turn stones into bread, so to speak, manna from heaven. We
have the tools, but do we have the Will?</p><p class="MsoNormal">Yes, it is a naïve and childish
idea, but then, we are also asked to be like little children…</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-38544088623445282022022-01-15T11:46:00.001-08:002022-01-15T11:46:52.601-08:00And Miles to go Before I Sleep<p> </p><p class="MsoNormal">This is a famous poem by Robert Frost, set in the mood of
winter, with snow on the ground and frost in the air.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">During this time of year, it is common for people to
experience the effects of different viruses. Temperature swings can occur, as our
life body, our immune system, rallies and sets out to restore balance.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We can consider that the Earth, too, has a life body. Here
in the Pacific Northwest, we have recently experienced extreme temperature
swings. This is nothing new, and has happened before in my lifetime.
Nevertheless, it is a warning that balance needs to be restored.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Mood swings, too, can happen when our hormones are out of
balance. We can consider volcanic activity, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. as
mood swings in the Earths life body. Again, balance needs to be restored.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As human beings, we experience the Earth as our home. So
far, it is the only planet we know of, where conditions are just right for our
existence. Unfortunately, these conditions are changing, in part due to our own
activities. In particular, the removal of non-renewable resources, the use of
chemicals and machines that harm the life body (including the delicate balance
of minerals, plants, animals, water, soil, air) of the Earth. We have
disregarded the mood swings and temperature swings so long as they do not
affect our daily life.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is no longer the case. As a collective, we must find
ways to help restore balance. Even more, we must find ways to renew the Earths
life body in such a way that she can continue to sustain OUR lives. You may
notice that I used the word, collective. This is because there is no one
perfect solution that can be applied. Each country, each community, must find
what works in their own area. We all can contribute in our own way, rather than
trying to impose a single solution. We have seen that agreement on one single
solution is not possible amongst nations, nor is it viable. Nevertheless, if we
each do our part to make a contribution, this will strengthen the restoration
and renewal. The 3 wise men did not all bring the same gift to the Child. Each
gift, gold, frankincense and myrrh, has its own healing properties. Neither
does the gift have to be expensive or rare. Sometimes the best gifts are the
simplest to make, and the easiest to do. Rather than pointing fingers at each
other, we must ask, What can I do? What is my gift that I can bring?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The life body of the Earth and our lives are intertwined, like
a picture of DNA. Only in this time period was this picture able to emerge. In focusing
on smaller and smaller minutiae, we have forgotten about the big picture. The
Earth is encouraging us to re-member.<o:p></o:p></p>

So much has happened and so much is coming… here is an update:</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This October I went to Berlin with our Seminary Directors and two other Ordination Preparation students - one from the US who studied here in Toronto, and one from South Africa. We were asked by the Church Leadership to come and meet with them in person as we look ahead to the Ordination Preparation course. It was an amazing trip meeting with the Leadership, attending the Ordinations of two new Priests (in German!), attending classes. We then traveled to see where our founder Rudolf Steiner lived in Berlin, and to Breitbrunn where the first circle of priests gathered to look at their future - becoming Priests and founding a new church. It was a whirlwind trip ending with a visit to the Ziest congregation in the Netherlands. There we met with Bastiaan Baan, who used to be the seminary director in New York. I feel so blessed to have been able to go on this trip and experience a part of the world wide movement and be in touch with its founding.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">With the completion of second year, I am now in preparation for Ordination. Three other students will join me in that group - one who studied here with me who is from the US, one from the UK, and one from Australia. We have already started with an online course together on Zoom. Also each of us, as well as the directors, have an early Christian to study and present about at the beginning of our in person classes in January. I will be studying Evagrius Ponticus from the fourth century. We are also working on printing out the gospel readings for the church services. It’s good to be practicing printing as my ritual books will be handwritten! The books are hand bound and art pens are used for the printing in script. Our classes will be speech training, sermon writing (and then delivering sermons), work on the Gospels, and on the Breviary - a group of meditations that Steiner gave specifically for the priests. Also my vestments are being made in Germany and I will be fitted in January for the final adjustments.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Thankfully for the past few months I have had employment at the Seminary. That has ended now as I transition into full time studies. The work has allowed me to put some money aside for supporting myself during the next few months until I start work in June. But I could use some financial support for supplies and tuition. It would be so helpful if you could post the gofundme link on your social networks with the hopes of reaching the final goal of the fundraiser. Here are the things I will need help with:</span></p><br /><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Handbound Liturgy Book, Gospel Folio, and Breviary: $375</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Script Pens and Folio Paper: $75</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Tuition: $4,500</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">It is so amazing to be moving forward with this calling to become a Priest! <p class="MsoNormal">You may well ask why I wish to refer to the Native American
custom of potlatch, which is still practiced in the Pacific Northwest. In fact,
it is in some ways, similar to our customary celebration of Thanksgiving and
even Christmas.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Today, I would like to mention a dear friend of mine, who is
celebrating her 70th birthday this year. In spite of a challenging
childhood, or perhaps because of it, she ultimately became a healer, prolific
artist and author. Despite daily pain and physical challenges from 9+
autoimmune diseases, she continues to maintain a positive attitude, and
continues to allow the creative juices to flow onto the page and/or canvas,
while still living independently.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This weekend, as part of a civic art show, she plans to give
away for free, 50 of her paintings. Her desire to do this is, I believe,
twofold. The first, is to make room for new impulses to come in. The second, is
the tradition of potlatch, which is typically a gathering together of family
and friends, sometimes over several days, to celebrate a special event. The
family holding the event distribute gifts to all participants, which is
opposite to our culture, where they would expect to receive gifts, except
perhaps at Thanksgiving and Christmas. During these two festivals, there is
usually an upwelling desire to bring family and friends together for a feast,
and the exchange of gifts. Amongst some of the Native Americans, it was a way
of redistributing wealth or sharing resources, among other purposes.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In the New Testament, there are many examples of giving as
well. The first Christmas, where gifts were brought to the baby Jesus. The
woman who misplaces a gold coin, or the father who temporarily loses a son.
When they are found again, there is a feast or celebration. The rich man who
asked Jesus what more he could do, and was told to give up all that he had and
distribute it to the poor. The disciples were commanded to set out and take
nothing with them. Our community priests are also asked to do the same.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Which is better – to give or to receive? The former suggests
an act of selflessness. Over the past two years and moving forward, we can
clearly see that there is more and more need for giving. Several close friends
and relatives have all responded to an underlying impulse this year to give
away things that have become merely stuff. We see the continued growth of a
chasm between the rich and the poor.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The time has come for us to listen to our hearts and ignore
political posturing, and respond in a positive way to the global hijacking of
world economies and governments by multinational corporations. The need has
never been greater for communities to come together and share all that we have.
Real change will only happen at the grassroots level. It can only happen
through the acts of individuals working together in a peaceful manner. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We are seeing this in places that have
experienced natural catastrophes, collapsed economies and overwhelmed
institutional structures. Now, as never before, we can perceive the light of
Christ, that wants to work in us and through us.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Sparky</p><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-24019798550266278822021-10-10T20:35:00.002-07:002021-10-10T20:35:51.010-07:00WELLSPRING<p> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">"Spirit Triumphant! Flame through the impotence of
faltering, fainthearted souls! Burn up selfishness, kindle compassion, so that
selflessness, the lifestream of humanity, may flow as the wellspring of
spiritual rebirth!" — Rudolf Steiner<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dear Friends,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">During this time of covid, when we have been forced to look
inwardly as never before, we have been in what may be called <i>a dream state</i>,
here in Vancouver.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Echoing the dream song of Olaf Asteson, some intrepid
community members will recreate the story of TCC in Vancouver up to this point,
during the upcoming Holy Nights.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is because the time has come for our community to dream
of what could be for the future. At night as we sleep, we receive messages from
the spiritual world, of good will, a renewal of our spirit for the new day. It
is time for us, in cooperation with the Spirit of our community, to begin a new
chapter. A legacy for the next generation.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We have long known that our current building/property simply
can no longer function, neither in the present, nor to certainly meet the
future needs of our community.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It is time for us to dream of a new location and space.
There is no greater expression of this need and longing, than the quote above
by Rudolf Steiner.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My beloved, our baby has grown wings and is ready to strike
out on her own. She is ready to soar and take her place amongst the tribe of
Eagles. On the Pacific west coast, there is no better image for movement than
that of an eagle. Reaching the highest heights, and plummeting to the deepest
depths. As such, it is my humble suggestion that our new chapel might be named: The
Chapel of St. John.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Since my last blog was focused on healing, I feel I would be
remiss in not bringing this website to your attention.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Some of you may already be familiar with eurythmy, Robert
Powell, and the Sophia School of Movement. A friend gave me the link some
months ago, in which you can access podcasts by Robert Powell (go to www.sophiaschoolofmovement.org).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In podcast series #4, he provides a video of an exercise in
eurythmy called, the Staff of Mercury. I will not go into it here, but it is a
wonderful exercise in movement – a gentle dipping and swaying from one side, to
the other, and up. Even if you are challenged in your lower limbs, it would
still be possible to do this exercise sitting in a chair, using your arms. He
goes into quite a bit of explanation regarding this exercise and then proceeds,
using first of all, words (from the Bible, some in Aramaic), then music. It is
very gentle and graceful, potentially a source of healing and strength in these
difficult times.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The gentle dipping and swaying from side to side reminds me
also of Hawaiian dancing, which I studied for awhile as a teenager. It too, is
graceful, with the movement of the body telling a story, usually accompanied by
words, or chanting. The greatest dancer I ever saw, was an older woman, a
teacher of hula, who had recently recovered from major surgery. This beautiful
woman, with hair almost down to her knees, had to be very careful in how she
moved her body. Nevertheless, the movement of her arms and hands told a
beautiful story. We were all spellbound. In both hula and eurythmy, the goal is
communication, of bringing something unseen into the sense world. Devotees
consider each of these to be, in a way, a calling, or a way of life.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">There is nothing more beautiful to me than watching tall
trees gently swaying back and forth in a strong wind, their branches moving
like arms (oh right, they are called limbs!) of a dancer. First side to side,
then still and upright. Perhaps Robert Powell had this picture in mind when
imagining this exercise. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In these times when we may find our movements curtailed
outside the home, it is important to remember that we can still find ways to
connect with that which is unseen and sacred. I find this exercise to be not
only good for the body, but for the mind, as well.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Happy moving!<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dear Father in the heavens, please forgive us our sins.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We, as human beings, continue to experience the nadir of
Earths cycles of time, despite the birth of Christ over 2,000 years ago. We
have witnessed, again and again, across the globe, mans inhumanity toward man,
woman and child. We wander in the desert of our own iniquities, blind, deaf and
dumb. Even worse, we turn upon those who try to help. Often, the hand is bitten
that tries to feed us. It is a fact, that those who are abused will often turn around
to abuse others, and so it goes on. There are many such stories in the Old
Testament. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, down through countless
generations.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">How do we move beyond this cycle?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In opening our eyes, ears and hearts to the lessons in the
New Testament, we may come to understand that there is a way to move forward.
We hear that through the Christ, we can be made new. In forgiving those who have trespassed against
us, we may hope that our own trespasses may be forgiven.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We may hope for the overcoming of the sickness of sin, by giving
Christ room in our hearts; more importantly, to work and move through each of
us. In working to heal others, we can find healing ourselves.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dear Father in the heavens, please give us the ways and
means to move forward in a new way, by allowing the Christ to work in us,
through us.<o:p></o:p></p>

Renewal.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Sparky</p><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>Sparkyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17625349533287381413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-68625055096649790112021-04-25T19:52:00.000-07:002021-04-25T19:52:39.063-07:00Erica’s Seminary Journey Update<p>Dear Friends of My Seminary Journey,</p><p><i>What will I do with my one wild and precious life????</i> That was the question…. And now for an update with what I have been doing.</p><p>The second term of the ‘Walking with Christ’ program has been completed and I have begun the final term.</p><p>This year of classes has been beyond my hopes and dreams. The studies have been full and deep, and have met me in the deepest places of my soul. There is a forming quality to the studies that I have not been able to fully bring to expression — I think because I am still in the forming process! Everything I have been doing has interwoven together to make a whole — everything supporting the learning of the other in so many ways in a full round of church services, classes, reading, homework assignments, and prayer.</p><p>The studies include Rudolf Steiner’s lectures to the founding Priests, study of the Gospel of St. John, Anthroposophy and Christianity, work with the inner life, and Cultivating Ecclesia - a class about everything practical from board work to pastoral care. I also join the local congregation for a study called Living with Christ.</p><p>Art is also a part of the training, including movement, speech formation, and painting.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6IqerTYyf2bSdB3PuAX8X_14ejcpuMzuhu0TiwfMQkLUe5Dnt82ZBueLUDUhRgEORpFtSY40yqO6Uh6gVXLo-T-UaWIvzpxQSNdtCKTVQKNlhRCjfPxqzuRK8J8R4TAhJvcyUBRuPKd0/s2048/283499B5-9D90-4300-9C5D-EF20E69D3F01.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6IqerTYyf2bSdB3PuAX8X_14ejcpuMzuhu0TiwfMQkLUe5Dnt82ZBueLUDUhRgEORpFtSY40yqO6Uh6gVXLo-T-UaWIvzpxQSNdtCKTVQKNlhRCjfPxqzuRK8J8R4TAhJvcyUBRuPKd0/s320/283499B5-9D90-4300-9C5D-EF20E69D3F01.jpeg" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>The first painting is a watercolour that started with very light colour patches that were slowly darkened until an indication of a figure showed itself. Then I brought the figure out of the colour to show itself completely.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>The second painting (below) started with the same light colours but then I copied another artists' painting (more in the abstract vein) and added my own touches. It’s actually very close to the original painting as far as colour intensity and form.</p><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxnEWMOeilo8SQrUx-R0s74UOdUeR-ao-Dv5v7tPNw8i60o8oxi5TkXiUezWpNVjn_XwJMni94UDHrjMGTex4Ck28B4vqJRhE7WQtIf3rWNak7w1wTDvSJvebsf5Rkkd8UjtI-xBwj17U/s2048/7384A0F3-F387-4A13-9907-3E8DD3CC99A4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxnEWMOeilo8SQrUx-R0s74UOdUeR-ao-Dv5v7tPNw8i60o8oxi5TkXiUezWpNVjn_XwJMni94UDHrjMGTex4Ck28B4vqJRhE7WQtIf3rWNak7w1wTDvSJvebsf5Rkkd8UjtI-xBwj17U/s320/7384A0F3-F387-4A13-9907-3E8DD3CC99A4.jpeg" /></a></p><p><br /></p><p>Another class I have been taking is called Sermon class. It took a whole term of exercises before I wrote my first sermon.</p><p>This week I begin giving sermons during the weekday services – what a threshold!</p><p>These classes continue for the term with an added evening class studying the Seven Sacraments.</p><p>All of this has been possible for me with the help of your generous donations and I’m filled with gratitude and appreciation. I can’t believe how close we are to the fundraising goal, it's beyond my dreams. If you are able, I would appreciate having the GoFundMe link posted on social media to spread the word. Thank you everyone and thank you to my GoFund team for all the help.</p><p>I’m aiming to make my next post in mid May, maybe it’ll be a sermon I’ve written. Until then — Happy Easter, Happy Spring!</p><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058095383598126964.post-83344004818701009132021-01-19T12:35:00.000-08:002021-01-19T12:35:09.164-08:00Seminary Journey News<p><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; white-space: pre-wrap;">Greetings Dear Friends,</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Finally an update with news of my Seminary Journey….</span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The fall was a busy time despite the limitations of Covid. I moved into the Seminary housing - a two bedroom basement suite under the Seminary (attached to the church). This has been wonderful as the walking to the church in the inclement weather was getting tiresome and living here is a good chance to immerse myself fully into the life of the church, reminiscent of the monastic life. </span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">My work as administrator for the Seminary finished at the end of November and that allowed me to fully concentrate on the seminary independent study project. I did not complete my research project and have an extension to complete it in the next couple of weeks. I have been researching ‘The Altar as Grave and Table’ as my topic. This brought up many thoughts and ideas that now I will bring together into a paper and into artistic expression (painting and collage is my plan). This will be followed up with preparing a 40 minute talk on the subject to be done at the end of January or beginning of February. </span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The introductory course in Greek is also finished now. I did a 10 minute presentation on the two Ancient Koine Greek words for ‘life’ in the New Testament — βίος (Bios) and ζωές (Zoe). Bios is used for that which sustains life or about life. We can see that in English with the word ‘biodiversity’ or biology’. Zoe (pronounced Zoā) is about the life of the Spirit as is ‘eternal life’ or ‘The Tree of Life’. There is so much to learn with the Greek. My sister gave me a Greek interlinear bible which has three english translations along with the Greek text. A very useful tool – especially since grammar isn’t my strong point in English never mind Greek! Still I learned a lot and am able to look at the original language with a little confidence.</span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">To keep up my artistic practice in the fall I was able to attend a few Eurythmy classes. In the photo I am practising Ephisians 6: ‘Put on the Armour of God’ in the chapel of the church.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 489px; overflow: hidden; width: 366px;"><img height="489" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Nz8bxhWK4jkEyAtrXSlS49cUI69m21NRW1M52dglUw3T9gWNSTs3_S4AuisKDkYVxRyJ8kGP2DKgd2zbgRD04Xel4vWggsK-6QQ0U5eno6eql9NRxZ-vyg8BmYhFv43l8gFEj1t3" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="366" /></span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I was also able to have painting lessons. Veil painting is something I have always felt intimidated to try. I feel very fortunate to have had some guidance from an art teacher here. I used this method for the picture below using thin layers of blue paint and as I was layering the paint I saw the indication of a face and then added layers so that it would show more. Such a different style than what I am used to! I did two other veil paintings and am working on a fourth. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to practice the technique more.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">.</span><span style="border: none; display: inline-block; height: 336px; overflow: hidden; width: 486px;"><img height="336" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/sdPb9_vDSEDVuaY6A1Hwq7sr5gMPGQMBKJpLSbd_pd9wSC9ioA0IrJwr1x0ysy2EPiHjA4QjoxxMa7ugvvIKsugwuZuZ1vklFIH6pJgMm1qq05beQHzt-qRUq6ZCtVqWB9ofbmS2" style="margin-left: 0px; margin-top: 0px;" width="486" /></span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The end of the fall term was somewhat trying as the future of seminary studies was in deep question. Our directors were wondering how to move forward during the pandemic that was presenting so many limitations. At one point the seminary studies were completely cancelled to wait until the border was able to open to let international students study here again. Thankfully a different plan has come about. I will be able to study here in Toronto with our director Jonah Evans in a covid adapted program that will still meet my needs for priest training. The studies will include lectures to the founding priest circle, study on Sermons, St. John’s Gospel… This program will be reviewed in March and depending on the Covid situation how we move forward with future studies will be decided. Who can plan too far ahead in these strange times??</span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I have also been learning more practicalities of the life of a priest. In early December I was able to accompany the priests on their work in the community: visiting smaller affiliate congregations and taking communion to a cancer patient for the last anointing. These have been humbling and deep experiences that have helped me grow. I was also involved in planning the Advent spiral. With the lockdown limitations we had the spiral outside. I had caught a cold and was not able to participate in the end, but could see the candle light from my window. Sooooo beautiful with a lot of good feedback from the community as to the way it was organized. </span></p><br style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /><p dir="ltr" style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">There are times I still can’t believe I am able to be here in Toronto, studying at the Seminary and following this calling. <p class="MsoNormal">Time changed last weekend, which means we begin to
experience darkness even earlier in the evening. This will continue until
approximately the winter solstice, when sunset begins to move later. At the same
time, sunrise continues to be later until around the time of Epiphany.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Here in Vancouver, winter can mean many gloomy, rainy days
on end with few hours of sunshine. This is exactly the time when we must turn
inward and search for light from within. We do not have to do this on our own,
for waiting patiently to be discovered in our hearts, is the Light of the World.
At first it may be an elusive will of the wisp, but if we work at it, that
little glimmer can continue to grow into a steadily burning flame. I admit that
sometimes it may burn low and dim, but the Source is inexhaustible.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This year, more than ever, we need to find that Light and
coax it into life, or to be more exact, love. Love for our higher Self, and
love for others. You know the kind of love I am talking about – selfless,
giving, compassionate, respectful. We all made the choice as spiritual beings
to enter into this earthly life. The Sanskrit phrase, namaste, means that my
spirit recognizes your spirit, your struggle. In lifting up others, we lift up
ourselves as well. In lifting up others, we lift up humanity as a whole. We are
all in this together!<o:p></o:p></p>

We started by turning the community room in the church downstairs into a workshop. Once the cloth was purchased our first step was to wash and dry it, and then to iron the yards of cloth and measure out two lengths, enough for two altar cloths. <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjluInAXN1kzORWq5JmGPYtLtg84fY1MostA2UtLJPMr9G6ZtAGCO626Tw0VT1BDZD_B-zPljLk8RmvpqYewcjU6joDTAfzut2wauoJqyB6Ltl3HFVD3tpi73AE0zonO6I1BkyTIouOPhw/s2048/AB229EF1-49FE-4D04-82E1-7FA3644CA718.jpeg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjluInAXN1kzORWq5JmGPYtLtg84fY1MostA2UtLJPMr9G6ZtAGCO626Tw0VT1BDZD_B-zPljLk8RmvpqYewcjU6joDTAfzut2wauoJqyB6Ltl3HFVD3tpi73AE0zonO6I1BkyTIouOPhw/w320-h240/AB229EF1-49FE-4D04-82E1-7FA3644CA718.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then what was needed was the courage to cut the fabric!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM30R3Cp564aolp5ByNWfpju-L6a_NKMDD4pU53Gl35wL66k4a-hocX5M0jXF47wGRjLXK4AkHBdWukuJnxuOCzHyuaK7rrJyV9OP5x7f8bxaryYE3byH1j58G-90RyI0XK1FP1Dqwey4/s2048/AF591532-8D92-4486-AB10-A087EC701B87.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM30R3Cp564aolp5ByNWfpju-L6a_NKMDD4pU53Gl35wL66k4a-hocX5M0jXF47wGRjLXK4AkHBdWukuJnxuOCzHyuaK7rrJyV9OP5x7f8bxaryYE3byH1j58G-90RyI0XK1FP1Dqwey4/w320-h240/AF591532-8D92-4486-AB10-A087EC701B87.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Next came the pinning... we used a lot of pins to make sure we had the edges straight and even.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs7N5nRbMmTVUFjq9WxYWRKKGvHVf6SBn8K8CBGio7OjLzrO8560ON32SeWT3BWH4g9USrkXu19GDzUcYKSQiSewd1RlassXayVhiq3CVVcUGLAhtULcRXdCy5-wPiC1xZctU3cyfaBHY/s2048/2940FA0E-1A32-421E-8A22-1C04390E5525.jpeg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs7N5nRbMmTVUFjq9WxYWRKKGvHVf6SBn8K8CBGio7OjLzrO8560ON32SeWT3BWH4g9USrkXu19GDzUcYKSQiSewd1RlassXayVhiq3CVVcUGLAhtULcRXdCy5-wPiC1xZctU3cyfaBHY/s320/2940FA0E-1A32-421E-8A22-1C04390E5525.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxLCYDK6ZV1QveHkOSscjpl5xgA-SWmo4WD_ugns2ombH9LgteK94OmbTfaOBicyOAjPClgbGZxQeWLdTSPv2yU2IOFGivRBZ7bNaGhPsifxFPe5DQTJyJEbpOjX-Xik5nrq6XXIgUF5I/s2048/6329104C-5A1B-4EDF-910E-8EB2F633C7D9.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxLCYDK6ZV1QveHkOSscjpl5xgA-SWmo4WD_ugns2ombH9LgteK94OmbTfaOBicyOAjPClgbGZxQeWLdTSPv2yU2IOFGivRBZ7bNaGhPsifxFPe5DQTJyJEbpOjX-Xik5nrq6XXIgUF5I/s320/6329104C-5A1B-4EDF-910E-8EB2F633C7D9.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>The main hems on each side needed a notch cut out.
